Western Digital have launched a new My Passport Studioportable hard drive that has an e-ink display on the front allowing you to quickly see information about the status of the drive even when the drive is powered off.Details available on the e-ink label include how much free storage space you have, how much you have used and how many of the major file formats you have stored on the drive such as how many vidoes and photos etc…As the display uses e-Ink, it only requires power when changing state so that when you unplug the drive the status of the screen stays as it is till a power source is added again instructing it to change. This means that very little power is needed to change the status, while no power at all is required to keep what’s displayed on the screen. When purchasing the HDD it is pre-formatted to work with a Mac although we do hear it’s simple to switch it over to a format that will work with a PC.Two capacities are available with the first storing 320GB of data and costing $150 while the second costs $200 and can store 640GB of data.320GB available from Amazon costing $119.99 (on sale) 640GB available from Amazon costing $159.99 (also on sale) Also a 500GB model is available at Amazon costing $139.99.
