Atlantis link with ISS

Space shuttle Atlantis docked with the International Space Station(ISS) at 15:07 GMT yesterday, on its final visit to the orbiting outpost as the US prepares to wrap the shuttle programme.
Before connecting with the ISS, the venerable vehicle did the customary back flip to allow station crew to photograph its heat shield. The snaps will be sent to ground controllers to check for any damage.
Atlantis is carrying the Raffaello multipurpose logistics module, loaded with spares and supplies. Pilot Doug Hurley and mission specialist Sandy Magnus will today use the ISS's Canadarm2 robot limb to shift the module from the shuttle's cargo bay to the station's Harmony node.
Ground-based flight controllers, meanwhile, are monitoring reports from the US Department of Defense’s Strategic Command that a piece of Soviet satellite COSMOS 375 may pass close to the ISS tomorrow afternoon.
NASA said yesterday: "The team expected updated tracking information following today’s docking to help determine if a maneuver using the shuttle’s thrusters is necessary to avoid the debris."

New 3D Battery: Recharge you laptop, mobile phone in 1 minute

The big problem with nowadays’ batteries is that they charge and discharge slowly. They can be made to charge and discharge faster at the price of their shortened lifetime, but that’s not a solution at all. Supercapacitors may offer fast charge/discharge rates, but their capacity is just not very high. A hybrid of these two would be perfect.A team of scientists at University of Illinois has invented a new type of battery which can cut down charging time.

Professor Paul Braun and his team has made this historic invention based on Nano technology and the details has been made available at 20 March, 2011, issue of the Nature Nanotechnology journal.

AICTE Bans Important MBA Entrance Examinations (Including XAT, ATMA and MICAT)

The latest reforms in All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) shocked management aspirants across India by banning top MBA entrance exams like XAT, ATMA, and MICAT as entry points to B-schools approved by AICTE. Only state government-run management entrance exams such as Maharashtra CET or ICET in Andhra Pradesh, CAT and MAT are now allowed to serve as entry criteria for aspirants of PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma Programs in Management) programs for business institutes.
However, Dr Prabhat Kumar Sahoo, Director and regional officer of AICTE, Western Region has stated that he will be sending in his suggestion to include XAT in the list of approved MBA entrance exams along with CAT and MAT and there is still a chance that it might get accepted. Till the clouds on XAT clear away, all b-schools will have to accept scores of CAT, MAT or state CETs as their entry criteria for their management programmes.
Autonomous Business Schools such as Goa Institute of Management (GIM)SP Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJMR) and National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) in Mumbai, Management Development Institute (MDI) in Gurgaon, and Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA) that had their own admission processes but were offering AICTE-approved PGDM programmes will not conduct separate entrance tests anymore and will accept scores of state CETs, CAT and MAT only.
Since the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are not governed by the AICTE, the new rules will not affect them or their admission processes. B-schools affiliated to different universities or deemed universities such as Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS)Symbiosis, FMS Delhi or IIFT Delhi will also not be affected by the new regulations, as they are not governed by AICTE.
According to Dr. Sahoo, B-schools who wish to judge students on their specialized skills can always do so at the the GD (general discussion) and PI (personal interview) stage. The move has been made to streamline the process of management entrance and to ensure that seats are filled only on the basis of merit and that quality in education in maintained in all the institutes.

Online Job Scams

Ironically, the very features such as global coverage, convenience, and speed that make the Internet convenient for job seekers have also made it much easier and safer for criminals indulging in employment-related fraud.
Until recently, con artists used printed classified ads and cold-calling to defraud job seekers. However, the Net has changed all that. The following are some common online job scams to watch out for:

Phoney job opportunities

Scammers create phoney job advertisements to mislead eager and unwary job hunters. The job announcement requests the user to send personal information. Such phoney job advertisements often use familiar-looking or convincing logos of a company. These ads are then linked to a fake Web site that resembles the real thing. Some such Web sites also charge fees. After a few days, these Web sites are pulled off the Net, leaving the users high and dry.
