Case against ‘Facebook’ for using Dirty words Against GandhiJi by ‘I hate Gandhi’ group


Facebook is very popular social networking site launched in February 2004 that is operated and privately owned by Facebook, Inc. As of January 2011, Facebook has more than 600 million active users. Users may create a personal profile, add other users as friends and exchange messages, including automatic notifications when they update their profile.                                                                                              

An IPS officer of UP cadre, has lodged the FIR against Facebook  at Gomti Nagar police station. Case has filed againest Facebook due to Dirty words & abusing user for Gandhi ji by  ”I Hate Gandhi” group.

An IPS officer claimed the words and abuses were of such nature that they are wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot. Other than Facebook, those who have been named in the FIR are those who have been running the group are

The FIR has been lodged under following section

1)section 153 (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of communities and other grounds)

2)153 A (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national-integration)

3)153 B (public nuisance)

4)290 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace)

5)504 (criminal intimidation)

6)506 and 66 A IT Act (using Information Technology for these purposes).
